2006-2007 Season: The Verdi Girls

Catherine ButterfieldCatherine Butterfield began her theatrical career as an actress, performing extensively in regional theatre, and only started writing plays initially with an eye toward giving herself an interesting role to play in New York. This she did in her plays Joined At The Head (Manhattan Theatre Club), Snowing At Delphi (WPA Theatre), Where The Truth Lies, (Irish Repertory Theatre) and No Problem, the first act of Life In The Trees at the West Bank Cafe. She also performed her one woman show, Bobo's Birthday at the American Place Theatre in New York.

Joined At The Head has been performed extensively in this country and abroad. Her play Life In The Trees received an acclaimed production in Los Angeles and won a number of Drama-Logue and L.A. Weekly awards. All of her produced plays have been published by either Dramatists Play Service or Samuel French.

Awards include New York Newsday's Oppenheimer Award and a Drama Desk nomination for Joined At The Head as well as the Kennedy Center-American Express/Roger L. Stevens Award for outstanding promise as a playwright. Life In The Trees received the Davie Award, a regional theatre prize for new plays, and was performed at the GeVa Theatre in Rochester. The Sleeper won the 2004 Kaufman and Hart award for best new American comedy.Ms. Butterfield is currently a writer/producer on the CBS hour long drama “Ghost Whisperer,” and is developing film versions of her plays Under My Skin and The Sleeper.
