Youth Theatre Kids
The Laguna Playhouse Youth Theatre has won national acclaim

The Laguna Playhouse resolutely believes in the importance offering plays for young audiences. Live theatre builds a sense of community, stirs the imagination, provokes thought, opens windows of understanding onto a larger world and helps individuals discover more about themselves.

We are therefore committed to providing young people with opportunities to experience theatre as entertainment, enrichment and enlightenment in different ways, depending upon their ages, interests, needs and abilities.

Our Youth Theatre Season offers plays primarily geared for children of elementary and middle school age—usually existing plays or musicals based on well-known, popular books or stories.

Uniquely within the region, the plays receive productions directed and designed by theatre professionals and fully mounted with the Playhouse’s technical resources. The cast and staff for each production are drawn principally from the Playhouse’s Youth Conservatory Program.

A note about the content of our Youth Theatre plays
The content of the plays is typically similar to G-rated or PG-rated films. Costuming may be tight fitting or fashionably revealing, males may sometimes appear bare-chested and costume changes sometimes occur in view of the audience, but there is never any nudity. There may be scary scenes and, depending on the subject, there may be depictions of violence, as in many fairy tales. Please refer to each play description for specific content of each play in order to determine suitability for your child.

2009-2010 SEASON

Stuart LittlespacerSTUART LITTLE, A MUSICAL FANTASY spacer
November 6 - 15, 2009
Based on the book by E.B. White

Adapted by Joseph Robinette
Music by Ronna Frank
Lyrics by Joseph Robinette and Ronna Frank
Directed by Donna Inglima
This musical version of E.B. White's classic tells the tale about a little mouse, Stuart, born into the Fredrick C Little family living in New York. He is just 2" tall but has the stature of a giant and accordingly goes on some big adventures! The charming story is of a determined "underdog" trying to survive in a "real people's world." From melodic ballads to exciting chorus numbers, it features such delightful songs as "Paddle Your Own Canoe," "Feed Him Up," "Size," "Stuart Little," "I'm Headed in the Right Direction" and "Nighttime in New York" (sung by a quartet of cats!).
